Hey there, I just wanted to share this experience with everybody because of how wonderful it was and how much it meant to me.
This was a part that I threw for my Grandparents 50th Anniversary. They had been SUCH an inspiration in my life that I wanted to really go all out and do something special that they would NEVER forget!
SO, here's what I did. Like so many other couples who had met during the time of WWII, my Grandparents had met at one of the military dances, in an incredibly romantic way which I don't have time to share here :) Anyway, I wanted to recreate the feeling of this era for them to help them re-experience the feelings they had for each other when they first met.
I gathered professional photos of these dances and blew them up, placing them strategically all over the banquet hall. I then matched my menu to foods which my Grandparents LOVE and decorated with American flags, photos of my Grandparents together as a young couple, and hung red white and blue Christmas lights around to give the place a warm cozy feel.
We played period music and spent the entire night dancing and watching my Grandparents sing along to their old favorites. It was a night I'll never forget, and I continue to think of how WORTH IT it was to make this big production for them.
They bring this up at EVERY family get together now, and I have become something of a favorite in their eyes. Ha ha :)
